The Kiski School for Boys, an all boys boarding school in Saltsburg, Pa., has been providing a high quality, student-centered experience in both academic and familial aspects of education since 1888 to students in North America and abroad. Through its long history, Kiski has been combining elements of discussion based learning, with problem solving projects pushing the creative and logic based skills within each student across a broad spectrum of subjects. Class sizes are kept small affording each student individualized instruction in an environment focused on the unique traits inherent to boys and their learning preferences. When outside of the classroom, students have access to teachers after sessions for additional one-on-one instruction, while still having the freedom to interact with other students. It is this experience, “The Kiski Experience”, that is now being offered through Virtual School for Boys.
Virtual School for Boys (VSB) is a unique opportunity offering a preparatory program to international students who are looking at attending high school at a U.S. private institution. At Kiski we have many years of experience working with students of varying educational and language abilities to help them achieve their goals of attending a top-notch American University. This experience combined with our knowledge of the private school system, will allow our VSB students to have a competitive edge by taking one year of coursework through us. The classes we offer, ESL I, ESL II, and Geometry, are courses that American private schools typically require as an entrance step for many international students. By taking our courses, students will become more marketable and in many cases be able to start in an accelerated position upon entering the U.S. education system.
Through the incorporation of virtual meeting software as well as Kiski’s highly developed content management system, learners will receive synchronous course lectures while interacting with other students and teachers. These classes will emulate the best traits of Kiski, from the challenging curriculum to the expert faculty. Students will move through the space in the form of an avatar and utilize a vast array of tools to learn, communicate, and create. Avatars are a virtual representation of oneself in a simulation-based environment. This format for teaching and learning breaks the mold for online education, and sets new standards for how students can learn through online education.
